Cityscapes & Wood Collages

Cleve used pieces of oak, maple, mahogany, pine, walnut, and chestnut to make cityscapes and abstract wood collages. In Washington, DC, Cleve discovered a dumpster behind Columbia Woodworks and found a treasure trove of assorted fine wood scraps. The owner, Dave Seagraves, found him there and Cleve popped up from inside the dumpster and said, “Don’t worry, I won’t sue you.” Thus began a friendship and an inexhaustible source of quality wood scraps. In a few, rare pieces, Cleve incorporated the reptilian ceramic tiles of sculptor Natalie Surving into his wood collages.
